dont call it a come back

so, when i decided that blogging wasn't necessarily as narcissistic as it seems, i promised myself i wouldn't one of those fair-weather blogger that puts up a few lame posts and then disappears. and yet, that's exactly what i did. sigh. but, birth and rebirth on a daily basis, yo! so, im bizzack.

here's my excuse:

On december 10 2004, i got a job. wahoo! (www.dcvote.org check it) then i spent the next week in london for my graduation and to finally, finally get some closure with azeem. which i did. thank god. and, against all logic, i ran into the one person who i really wanted to see but was convinced i wouldnt: adam, my old manager at lush (www.lush.com check it.). i was walking from dinner with my parents in soho to pub with friends on fleet street and i found myself making my way through convent gardens, as my mom calls it. i was debating in my head whether it was a good idea to stop by and see him at the shop. but, as always, i was late for the do with my friends and i had no idea when adam was working and when he was not. and as soon as i decided in my head that i wasnt going to stop and as soon as i had walked passed the gallery that holds the lush shop, i heard my name shouted in adam's lovely lovely voice. it was serendipitous. we're having a chrismas party at teh shop, he said. i just popped out to sainsbury's to get some more mince pies. come with me! he said. i went to the shop with him, irritated the other manager and new people who i didnt know by elbowing my way through teh stacks of soap and pre-wrapped chrismas presents to the tiny bathroom in the back to find that nothing, nothing had changed. which made me miss it intensely and thank my lucky stars that i wasnt there any more all at teh same time. when i squeezed my way back to the front, adam handed me a piece of reciept paper on which he'd written his address, looked me in the eye, and in the most serious of tones said "dont lose this". i hugged him, kissed him on the cheek and made my way out, smelling of lush all the way down the strand, past lse and the royal courts and to ye olde cheshire cheese. i spent a few hours with my lovely political theory volker. it was a lovely night. perfect. even the goodbyes were perfect, and i usually find goodbyes so awkward.

anyway, i got back to saginaw, spent a week at home and then moved to DC. and then i started the apartment hunt, which, as expected was tortuous. tortuous, i tell you! And I finally decided on a lovely townhouse in capitol hill living with a lovely woman. well, lovely so far. i don't expect her to get weird, but you never know. and my job is wonderful. not quite yet as challenging as i woudl like it to be, but i wasn't really present for the first 2 weeks because i was freaking out about finding a place to live. so i dont think i was really giving it my all either. here's to moving next week and kicking ass at my job in february.

i've started whistling recently. i dont know when it started. probably during all those long walks going from dingy apartment to shoebox to weird living situation and getting depressed at the fact that its nearly impossible for a single person to find suitable living in DC. nyc, i cannot imagine. i guess its just the hand dealt to all single people. we all cant be rent-control carrie bradshaws. anyway, i whistle at random all the time now. sometimes without realizing. and where i woudl have previously sang or hummed under my breath to a song, i've begun to whistle. and ive gotten better and better at it. like, i can hit a wider range of notes and im louder than i used to be. which is proof to me that its not too late for me to be a kick ass drummer or, in general, to learn to become good at somethign new even though i started it at the ripe old age of 24. all it takes is practice.
